fonze Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 long list here lost some water out of the bottom of my 2.8 v6 galaxy was told water pump changed that now oil presure light comes up and heaters not working any advice Quote
seatkid Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 Calm down Amorak....hopefully Fonze's got the message that posting multiple threads on the same topic is not good "etiquette" Fonze, its not clear what the sequence of events have been from your extremely brief one liners but I suspect what has happened is this, correct me if I'm wrong - you had an overheating problem and water loss so changed the water pump. I presume this fixed the overheating but now don't have a functioning heater and also your oil pressure warning light is on (constantly?) The non working heater could be simply an air lock. The heater hoses go into the top of the heater. They are located in the engine bay under the plastic scuttle panel that runs under the front windscreen. If you remove the panel (3 x 10mm bolts) you should be able to disconnect one the hoses to release the air. As for the oil pressure light - if its constantly on - check the connection to the oil pressure switch has not been disconnected possibly when you changed the water pump. Stick to this thread please and much more detail is required if you want to get any real advice. Quote

seatkid Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 sorry if ofended anyone really am gratefull for any help as this is my family car and carnt afford all the garage work so really am most gratefull to all your help and advice thank you Is it oil temp warning or oil pressure warning? Overheating and no heaters but not losing oil looks like a water pump problem. Quote
cyborg Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 sorry if ofended anyone really am gratefull for any help as this is my family car and carnt afford all the garage work so really am most gratefull to all your help and advice thank you Is it oil temp warning or oil pressure warning? Overheating and no heaters but not losing oil looks like a water pump problem. When you replaced the Water pump did you spin it by hand because the reason I ask is somtimes there over cast and the implelers stick to engine , hence no differance on yours being changed . A simpton of oil pump going is rattlerley valves . Quote
fonze Posted October 3, 2011 Author Report Posted October 3, 2011 i tried the pipes that you told me there is no water coming out of either of them Quote
fonze Posted October 3, 2011 Author Report Posted October 3, 2011 its the oil presure warning coming on. checked pump spins fine Quote
fonze Posted October 3, 2011 Author Report Posted October 3, 2011 just checked water pump seems to be turning fine Quote
Amarok Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 (edited) just checked water pump seems to be turning fine OK take the thermostat out put the housing back and refill with water to the mark and start the engine with the expansion cap off. you should see the water flowing instantly and if you feel the two pipes from the radiator you should feel the water flowing? (you did fit the belt the correct way around didn't you ??) No Flow ?? then its water pump out, check its turning and put a hosepipe in the pump hole in the engine and give it a good flush. From your description as you say you changed the pump, it sounds like the thermostat is stuck shut (Hence me asking to remove thermostat, bung it in boiling water and see if it opens ?)with water systems there are 5 main faults1. system don't pressurize (needs to be pressurized as it raises the boiling point of water and the engines normal temperature is 10 15 degrees more than boiling water at sea level so no pressure it will boil!)2. water not circulating (pump not pumping)3. Blockage (thermostat or radiator)4. Airlock (air trapped)5. Leak (head gastket, split pipe etc) The oil warning I think is due to the overheat situation and needs to take second place at this moment in time as you need to get the overheat sorted or you will blow the head gasket... I understand you don't have any money (join the queue I work for the NHS and have Quote

seatkid Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) Why don't you try FAQ 42 for a start. the FAQ and the search facility is there for a reason! There is a mass of information on this forum if you bother to search for it. No-one can be an expert on all the engine variants and none of us are going to start hand holding or teaching basic mechanics. Edited October 6, 2011 by seatkid Quote
